More from the Maryland State Archives Project

Last week at the Maryland State Archives was another intriguing glimpse into the lives of Carroll County people at the turn of the last century

We were preparing documents from 1908 to 1909, but a 1906 one had been misfiled.

It was interesting seeing the variance in cost for conducting the service, digging the grave, and the coffin price. Those are clues about the status of someone’s ancestor.

There were quite a few real estate holders, and we saw the evidence of the property rentals, so there are probably more records to investigate.

A mare, a buggy, and a diamond ring.

There was some information about custody, and a widower’s support of the caregiver of his child that might solve some family’s mystery.

There were a lot of fasteners, too. Most of the fasteners were the kind that the professional staff at the Archives had to remove.
